Girls chalk up another win against Melksham Fawns

Girls chalk up another win against Melksham Fawns

Dannii Welman17 Dec 2024 - 14:43

Finishing the year still unbeaten!

What a game!!

We knew that the Lionesses needed to step up their game against the Fawns, and they did just that.
The opposition seemed to have heard the whispers of how good our U12s are so they came prepared and proved to be our toughest opponent yet.
The game was played in great spirit. Respect, Resilience and Teamwork in abundance!

If the future of women's rugby needed to be measured, both teams showed that the future is looking bright!

Lionesses held their shape, worked together and used their strengths to end the first half of the season with yet another win.
The first half played down the channels with lots of physicality. The Fawns showing that tackling in pods works wonders against some of our faster and stronger players. The second half saw the Lioness adapt to the Fawns challenge, moving the ball out wider and running for those corners.
The whole team really stepped up today. All good teams look inward to move forward. We know there are areas to work on, but the fact that the girls themselves have asked for extra support in building their confidence in these areas shows amazing self awareness as well as their desire to improve, not just for themselves, but for their team.

Two special mentions are Sophie, for nice strong tackles, showing her confidence in that area is really building.
Mouse for demonstrating how useful the handoff can be to help score tries, and how being low to ground when rucking over can be a real advantage

Player of the match must go to Martha though. Going from strength to strength, tackle to tackle and having possibly the highest work rate on the field that we've seen all season. Also showing superb footwork on the run as well as a drive to fight for that ball.

Like I say, each and every player deserved that win today and they should all be immensely proud of their season so far.

*Pls note that Faringdon girls partner with Cirencester and Minchinhampton to form the Cotswold Lionesses!
